As many are aware, each year we adopt a local family from LARS, an advocacy group in Laurel that helps low income and homeless families in the area. This year we received a family of 5 who we hopefully will be able to help bring a little sunshine to on Christmas day! Thanks to our amazing patients we’ve already received donations of two bikes, two mp3 players, a dollhouse, k’nex, barbies, legos, and more! Thank you, thank you thank you to our those who have helped allow us to give to this family in need so that they too can have something to look forward to this holiday season!
The holiday’s are starting to shine in the office.
Happy Holidays!!!
Hello, my friends! I wanted to take a moment and wish everyone Happy Holidays! This is a time of year to reconnect with family and friends and to reflect on the past year and all we’ve accomplished. It can also be a season of busyness; rushing from party to party, shopping, standing in long lines, eating too much, not sleeping enough, and the list goes on.
I want to take the time to encourage you to remember to stay centered on yours and your family’s health. It is important to take care of yourselves, so I am giving you “A Holiday List of Musts” to do during this season.
Wash your hands often > Keeping hands clean is one of the most important steps you can take to avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others!
Stay Warm > Cold temperatures can cause serious health problems, especially in infants and older adult. Stay dry, and dress warmly in several layers of loose-fitting, tightly woven clothing.
Manage your stress > The holidays don’t need to take a toll on your health. Balance work, home, and play. Keep a relaxed and positive outlook.
Travel safely > Whether you’re traveling across town or around the world, help ensure your trip is safe. Don’t drink and drive and always ensure both you and your loved ones wear your seatbelts.
Be smoke-free > Avoid smoking and breathing other people’s smoke. If you smoke, quit today! Call 1-800-QUIT-NOW!
Get check-ups > Be sure to keep up on your chiropractic check-ups and adjustments, to keep your immune system healthy.
Watch the kids > Keep potentially dangerous toys, food, drinks, household items, choking hazards (like coins and hard candy), and other objects out of kids’ reach.
Prevent injuries > Use step stools instead of furniture when hanging decorations. Keep candles away from children, pets, walkways, trees, and curtains and never leave them unattended.
Handle and prepare food safely > Wash hands and cooking surfaces often. Cook foods to the proper temperature. Refrigerate promptly. Do not leave perishable foods out for more than 2 hours.
Eat healthy and be active > Choose fresh fruit as a festive and sweet substitute for candy. Choose one or two of your favorites from the host of tempting foods. Find fun ways to stay active; perhaps dancing to your favorite holiday music. Be active for at least 2.5 hours a week.
Give the gift of health and safety to yourself and others by following these holiday tips.
From our family to yours, we wish you the healthiest of holidays and hope to see you soon!
Yours in Health,
Dr. Brian Colquitt
